TOPIC: Looking for SCAdians

Looking for SCAdians 2 years, 7 months ago #426

Greetings! We were wondering if there are any like-minded souls in DuPage County, IL., preferably in a 20 mile radius of Wheaton - West Chicago?
Last Edit: 2 years, 7 months ago by Maeive Connor.

Try under "Groups"...... I know I found a section for my local group though no one has seemed to join as of yet....

Are you talking on this site? Or are you looking for your local group? Have you tried the "find a group near you" function on www.sca.org? They changed it up some and I found it a bit harder to use than it has been in the past, but it should still get you the information you're looking for if what you want is a local contact.

Thanks - I looked through all of groups offered. Although there are many there that stirred my curiosity and I plan to explore some of them further, none seemed to address our need for fellowship in the DuPage area of Illinois.

Yes, I agree, the page for "Find your local group" on sca.org seems not as user friendly as before. I miss the map! At least then I could show how we are on our own in our area. The closest local groups are still a good hour's drive each way and we just can't afford that for frequent gatherings.

We have attended Pennsic twice and wish to find a group to develop friendships and to camp together. My Husband, daughter and I joke that we should start our own group, but if one exists we would much rather offer our resources to the more experienced.

Any other advice is heartily welcomed, thank you!

Well, something else that you could do is contact Corporate through the option provided on teh "find your local group". Perhaps there are others in your area who are interested in starting a group. You never know! If nobody else has contacted them, at least you will have done so in case somebody else comes along in the future with your same dilemma.

And why not start your own group? My shire was started by five people... we're still small (eleven years later and pushing to get 15 people at meetings), but we have a TON of fun and it's nice to have support of like-minded individuals nearby for everything from "help me sew this" to "can we carpool to the event". Oh and hey, starting your own group doesn't have to be daunting and scary. Just contact your regional "new groups deputy", then start putting the word out and holding regular meetings. .

While not currently in that area, I hail from there originally, and am pleased to see those town names posted! A brief bit of google-fu:

Ayreton (Barony)
Foxvale, Grey Gargoyles, Rokkehealden, Tree-Girt-Sea, Vanished Wood
Richard de Scolay (Bernal Schooley)
3320 Husking Peg Ln
Geneva, IL 60134-4656
630-457-4124 This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
www.ayreton.org/

and there you go! Geneva's not far, I know. This listing is found, with links, on a website: www.midrealm.org/seneschallorum/index.phtml#Midlands

Seems your kingdom is Midrealm, your Region is Midlands, your Barony is Ayreton.

Good Journey to you - and if you ever find yourself out in the Shire of Glyn Dwfn (Medford, Oregon) look me up!
