Good day all gentles,
When I first entered the game two years ago, the first thing I was told was that I would have to be putting a lot of money into it to play the game the way it should be played-- This frightened me. At the time I was a 23 year old college student with a seasonal job (now I am a 25 year old college student with a seasonal job AND a wedding to pay for) and thought to myself, self I thought there's no way I can take on this hobby, I don't have enough money for ramen on a weekly basis. I was about to give up, I was at my first event and I was really only there because my soon to be fiancee had made a bargain she still hasn't completed (I had to join the SCA and she had to read a comic book... I am still waiting on the second part), but something drew me in. At first I couldn't figure it out, but I soon realized what it was: These were my people. In talking to them, they were like me, and they liked me. I didn't have to defend my love of history, or comic books; I didn't have to hide my inner geek, because these people accepted it. I was hooked, but there was still that lingering question: how am I going to pay for all this? I soon discovered a wide variety of tricks that allow me to continue to play at a high level, with out spending much money. In the coming months I hope to share how I did it, answer questions about playing on a budget and share my unique outlook on the game with all who will listen, but for now I will leave you with a question: How many of you have faced these problems? How did you first break in on a budget?
