My first A&S Entry
Recently at Fall Coronation in Northshield, I finally entered into an A&S competition for the first time. It was a last minute decision, so I knew the finished product wasn’t going to be as good as it could be, but it was a chance to just take the plunge and do something I’ve wanted to do for a long time.
On Wednesday, I spent several hours at the computer searching for a project that I could sew that would also fit the theme of the event (Viking Age York). I... |

I see so many people joining the boards, that like me are very new to sewing....
Even though there are so many nice and informative seasoned sewers, I know at least for me the help and advice they give can sometimes still confuse me more then the simple instructions I know I am over analyzing...So here we go through the different styles of garb starting with the easy projects and moving on to the more difficult as I get there....
Having already started on garb, I will start anew (since I... |

Well met, good gentles of the Knowne World! I am Kanna al Tanmerc'h, and I come to you from the Barony of al-Barran in the mighty Kingdom of the Outlands. I am a bard; I love to tell a good tale, and I hope that whosoever comes by my ramblings on this site enjoys hearing one. And in this context, I hope my tales are of a practical, useful bent.
I'll begin with this fact: I am a newcomer. Indeed, I am a newcomer who has more or less jumped into the game feet-first, and I've no... |

I decided to blog on this site for a number of reasons. The most obvious being a forum for insight of perception, but also to examine the different philosophies that are prevalent in the various SCA organizations. My goal is to incite debate, opinion and emotion in an appropriate venue so that greater understanding can be had by all. I am in no way a psychologist, confessor or judge and jury in way.
It may be amusing, it may be frustrating but it is what it is. Nationally and... |

Well! I guess I am to join the ranks of bloggers! I've never done this, so I'm going to need help from you guys. I'll post my random sewing adventures, but I need to hear from you as to what you want to hear about. Do you want to know what it was like to enter into my first A&S competition? Do you want to hear about the trouble I'm having finding instructions for how to do puff and slash? What do YOU want to know about?
As an introduction of sorts... I do sew a lot of garb. I... |

This is a list I had made up in early 2009. I thought it was funny then and still holds true now so I am sharing it here with you cause being that I just finished two scrolls this week I still hold all these stages to be true. :) [NOTE: These stages can really be applied to any art form really. I just happen to be a scribin' crazy person so I made it for scrolls.]
Stage 1 – Procrastination – I have plenty of time to do the scroll, a month…then it is three weeks…then a little over a... |

I am an A&S junkie here in the SCA. I always have projects and crafty things that I do for others and myself and as with many people who do A&S and crafty things in the SCA I find that my projects sometimes overwhelm and take up a great deal of my time. Deadlines loom and more people come to you wanting more.
I have burnt out for months on end, I have stressed over deadlines and done many overnights to get projects done. Staying up all night the day before (heck sometimes a few days before... |

There are quite a few applications that every member has access to but they are not all automatically installed - such as your "Wall". Go to the tab "Community", then "Applications," then "My Applications" to see all of the options you have! |

So I finally got around to researching a name for my SCA persona. I had to decide what kind of garb I was wanting to wear and what kind of names I liked before deciding which region to select my name from.
At first I was thinking English, but to be honest I found most of the names were too boring for me. I liked a lot of the French names but I accepted the fact that I did not want to be from France (I'll just leave it at that). Next I was thinking maybe Scottish or Irish, but I've... |
